Elise Morgan interviewed Mohamid El-Erian from Pimco who talked about how Central Banks have distorted things with negative
interest rates and QE and how they are boosting share market when the wealthy own shares. He worries more about Europe
because he believes they are at stall speed, than he does about the US. He rates 60% bad outcome and 40% good outcome and
believes politicians will wake up.
He is also concerned when it comes to Australia that we rely too much on China and may one day have to make a choice.
He talked about IMF downgrading growth and central banks being BFF - best friends forever.
Ray Dalio from Bridgewater spoke also about low rates and the way inequality had risen. He spoke of wealth and politics divided,
of how central banks had helped those with assets and the rise of China post WW2.
He is expecting more of the same and cannot see how things can be unwound and believes we are late in the cycle.
Blackrock'
s Rob Kapito talked about how many had wasted 3 years by sitting on the side lines and not been in the market.
He was saying it was not about timing the markets but time in the market.
He saw unfunded pensions big a big problem as people lived longer but believed Australia was far better off than most countries because of our compulsory savings. When it came to health care he did say that higher taxes may be needed to cover that.
Howard Marks from Oaktree Capital is a market cycles specialist who now thinks that extra monetary policy makes things
different now. He acknowledged that riskier investments were being made and was really not sure how we would get out of
this cycle but almost said it would happen naturally.
Of course anyone you ask would have a slightly different opinion but that really is my summing up of what I have just seen.
And then in a daydream I hit stop (I had recorded the show) and then delete before I realised what I had done. Habit.
It is the sort of thing I might have watched twice but pity about my concentration. LOL
Pity the show was not just put to air as The Business.
