Correction: An earlier version of this story stated that Fortescue's breakeven price was $US71 a tonne, according to UBS research, and the miner was therefore only just breaking even in the September quarter. That is incorrect. It should have stated that Fortescue's breakeven was a benchmark index price of $US71 a tonne. Analysts estimate Fortescue made a $300 million cash surplus in the quarter.
