I suspect some miners would prefer to be taxed under a profits based system like the MRRT rather than the current volume based royalties.
Wouldn't think they are out of touch trying to spread the benefits of the mining boom seeing as though the "problems" of the mining boom are already being shared with the wider community via higher interest rates, higher AUD and low unemployment. More in touch than many can comprehend imo.
