Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) has suspended operations at its flagship mine site Cloudbreak in the Pilbara.
ABC Radio reports this morning that the Department of Mines and Petroleum confirmed an "incident" yesterday.
It is understood a 180 tonne dump truck ran over a stationary utility.
The Department said the company had voluntarily halted operations at Cloudbreak, but that no-one at the site had been injured.
Department inspectors will travel to the mine, located 150km north of Newman, on Tuesday.
A United Construction employee was killed at the Cloudbreak operation in January last year.
