Cuban President Fidel Castro - the world's longest serving political leader - is celebrating his 79th birthday today.
No official celebrations have been planned for Mr Castro, who overthrew the previous American-backed government in 1959.
His birthday comes only days after a United States court ordered a new trial for five alleged Cuban spies, who have been hailed as heroes on the island.
Observers say the ruling has given Mr Castro a boost as he faces growing complaints from many Cubans over problems at home, including frequent power blackouts.
The Cuban leader has vowed to continue in office for as long as Cubans want him as their leader.
