It's a question of time scale, are you trading or investing? For me personally 16 months is ok, I'll hold FMG in the red for that long. I wasn't in the market in 2017, but if I was and if I had the same strategy then that I had a few years later when I got in at around $15, I would have tolerated a 10-20% loss for that long, and it would have paid off handsomely, by now "free carry" from the divis with a bit left over, and 400% capital gain.
If you are after a faster bit of profit-taking or if you need the cash, maybe you will get burned in the 16 month period if you realise your losses and sell.
The same advice can be stupid for some people, spot on for others.
