My question to totoschillaci and other chart traders - How do you factor in known and unknown situations that materially affect the share price? For example, clearly when a stock trades ex-div there is usually a fall in price on that ex-div day equivalent to the dividend price. Adjusted by any specific information that day such as good or bad news or changes in commodity prices etc.. The chart will show a big fall as a result, but clearly that fall is nothing to do with the real environment in which the stock trades.
Similarly, conditions such as the Vale disaster and strengthening of IO prices (for specifically for FMG's value to tightening of discounts to lower grade ore) will have a positive effect on FMG regardless of what the chart says.
Do you factor these into trading decisions when looking at charts, and if so, how? Cheers, J.
