Hi Big E i appreciate your post. The arguments that shorting provdes liquidity is a fallacy. Companies are made by those who provide the capital so that profits can be made which are, in turn, returned to the investors as dividends. Super funds, mum and dad investors etc provide this capital and are entitled to their returns. The process of shorting a stock does nothing to enhance the position of those who have invested, in fact quite the contrary. When a company falls on hard times, the last thing it needs is a bunch of shorters gathering like vultures to pick its carcase. We need to recognise that those who prove the venture capital need to be protected not the opportunists who can see a quick profit while producing nothing!
