When a person has a conspiracy theory mindset, they adopt beliefs which inflate their own self-worth, and not because those beliefs are supported by evidence. When events occur that conflict with your belief, you flip the evidence around to say that it actually means the opposite of what people say it does... so if the market goes up OR down it still proves you right either way, and it makes you feel special. You never ever have say those three little words which ultimately add to your wisdom: "I was wrong".
