Have you not realized yet that what motivates people on these occasions is the fear that companies including gold producers can be bought later on at a cheaper price?

Share investors want cash for speculative reasons (anticipating falls in prices) wile investors buying gold want gold for precautionary or safety reasons including portfolio diversification. These are people in fear among other things of economic and financial chaos (debt defaults, money printing, bank runs, bankruptcies, currency devaluations, contractual obligations not being honored, etc.)and in extreme cases civil commutation, fuel and food shortages, etc.)
