That's exactly what happened with me. I didn't think they were "collecting" votes though, just asking how we felt about the offer. I answered pretty much same as you. And when he said who he was and why he was calling, i'm the one who "chuckled". He also said he was from a market research company who has been engaged - not to collect votes - but to gather shareholder sentiment, and he said he was taking notes on what I said. If he were collecting votes, he wouldn't need to take notes on anything else, its either a yes or no.
