First impressions, normally secure enrolments, but that can be short lived if the quality of care is not constantly promoted and improved. As the article wasn't written by an early childhood professional, I'll refrain from commenting on the inaccuracy and concerns raised by some on social media. An occupancy rate of 90% in a 163 place centre is good, but there are another 499 centre's in the group to consider.
Occupancy across the majority of centre's will have improved because of the CCS and the ability of centre's to offer flexible hours. It's still too early to accurately talk about occupancy, families are still settling into new school routines.
The two things to watch over the next 12 months, IMO are: the improved transparency in billing, families are now able to see what hours they attend and what hours the centre is being paid for. There is a concern among some that those families on higher fees and attending fewer hours, may start looking at other options, community based care, preschool, family day care etc.
The other concern is the introduction of a second ECT to be employed in any centre with 60 children or more from January 2020. Currently G8 have 260 staff vacancies, of these vacancies 84 (32.3%) are for ECT, it will be extremely difficult for centre's to meet this regulated change.
