At the root of fascism and stalinism is obedience and punishment.
The situation that Folau has blundered into has exposed the ugly side of rising fascism that packages itself as progressive stalinism. Folau is not obedient to a most outrageous dictat.

The brownshirt SS of the nazi party had an openly gay leadership. Led by Rohm the SS meted out violent punishment to all those who refused obedience to the fascists. Hitler had them murdered not because they were gay but because they threatened to dissolve and replace the army. Yet despite the SS violence they allowed citizens to express religious beliefs.
So here we are in 2019 where the fascists have chosen to steal power using alleged victims as their battering ram. Step one is to always shut dissenting voices up. If they won't shutup then use punishment. When that fails use violence.
