And do you think those companies all settle despite them having clear conviction that the those employment claims made against them are baseless?

Because if that was the case, the courts would be clogged with every single dismissed employee making a claim against his or her former employer.

companies consider the strength of their case, c legal and other costs, risk of bad publicity etc and decide on that basis. Often cheaper to pay hush money than go through a case to a legal conclusion, even if you win.
