Scheduling is based on risk hence low scheduled drugs are over the counter at pharmacies, if the risks are higher then the drug must be prescribed. If the drug is genuine i.e has been tested and registered with the TGA then doctors will recommend it whether you need a prescription or not. Some may remain unaware and to some extent drug reps would play a part however if as effective as suggested it would soon become the go to (if as effective as eluded to..). You may be thinking of over the counter like at Coles but I am talking about still being a scheduled drug (pharmacy) with the likely high purchase price that implies.Even if if were not available on the PBS any time soon, the fact that you didnt pay $400 for the privilege of having a dermatologist write you a Roaccutane script means you have plenty in your pocket to purchase a patented scheduled low risk (probably?) proven alternative, even for a high price (Hypothetically).
