    Hi R Bohisen
Until you correct me I shall address you as Bob
Bob I really appreciate your words as I a complete novice have only had a basic understanding of certain things and as I delved into what ALK had I really got excited and I looked and so I used search tools such as google. As such I may have misinterpreted the data and as such may have misled my friends and enemies here on the Hot Copper. The basic thrust of my post was that Zr & Hf are so close in makeup that it has only needed to be seperated ( commercially) by the nuclear power industry end users being Areva, GE and trumps masters Russia.
Yes I made an assumption that the separation was needed to produce a really cool, hoty container (sorry)
and I will quote from other sources to clarify
Zirconium is used in nuclear fuel cladding, chemical piping in corrosive environments, heat exchangers, and various specialty alloys. The major end uses of hafnium are in nuclear control rods, nickel-based superalloys, nozzles for plasma arc metal cutting, and high-temperature ceramics.
