Agree livestock enterprises are becoming more marginal due to imput prices. I live in what once was predominantly livestock orientated. Our largest imput expenses are fertilisers and feed which have both risen considerably and at the same time our produce from our livestock has either remained the same or gone backwards, as is the case for wool. I suppose we are fortunate in the sense we are able to quit livestock and allocate more acreage to crops. This year the amount of animals moved out of the system in this area is mind blowing. The disturbing part is these animals, which in many cases are prime breeding stock, are ending up at the meat works for slaughter. I feel for the farmers that cannot switch to more profitable enterprises on their farms. On the flip side I see a major correction in the protein meat market by the years end.
