Lord Elons answer - the people want faster cars (because that is really easy).
(I don't know about you but I certainly don't want to be paying the Government - remember speed kills???).
The real problem & a VERY difficult problem to solve is the battery. As far as range & being able to do lot of diving between recharges without looking for that umbilical cord so that range anxiety is not chipping away inthe back of your head.
- Elon, The God almighty's solution is to make a bigger battery, making the car incrementally heavier..
We need to be doing more with less.
The EV's cars are particuarly sensitive to weight, they all need to go on a diet & drop 4oo to 500kg's.
Also the government should consider charging them a weight tax as they destroy the roads faster than a similar lighter Ev.
Getting an EV to produce the same performance an an Ice as far as useability is still a LONG way off for not requiring tethering to an unsightly umbilical cords on a daily basis or even inter daily basis.
Ev's don't save the planet, but agree that they will be the new shiny, the new iphone XX that we all MUST have.
The revolution is not for our benefit.

Hi Mudguts
The EV's cars are particuarly sensitive to weight,
Lets face it, EVs are very sensitive to hot weather, cold weather, heavy loads, periods of inactivity etc. etc
They are a one trick pony, just the same as renewables for power supply
When the wind is exactly the correct speed when the sun is at the correct strength, and correct angle, they work fine, IE 40% of the time for ideal conditions if you are kind, the rest of the time as useful as an ashtray on a motor bike
