0410 GMT [Dow Jones] Australian Treasurer Costello says government may override state
government bans on new uranium mines; "it may be argued that under our trade and
commerce power... and under our external affairs power, that the Commonwealth has the
ability to facilitate the trade and commerce of uranium and the export of uranium.".
Using such powers one way around Labor Party's "no new mines" policy,
which won't be reviewed until 2007. Costello declines to expand on comment, notes
only that opposition policy "illogical" given China's demand for power,
