It never ends well for the mice. Trial design would have relevant end points and post mortems to investigate specific organs for tell tales of issues.
There was a push for better welfare and retirement cage for mice but it lost out to a new coffee machine for the lab techs. The techies also wanted fresh milk but settled for the new machine and a good supply of uht.
