By burning 1 ton of coal CNX have demonstrated that they can generate 20 GJ or 5555 KWh or 5.5 MWh of energy/power.
Most small scale power stations operate on this sort of capacity.
Bigger the resource, higher the controlled burn-up which generates more Mega Watts of power. This MW power is then sold to the local market or industry, thus generating cash flow for the company.
IMO, now that the trial is a success, they should increase this burn-up to demonstrate sustaining a 50MW plant to supply to local townships in the area.
Compare this with some other projects around,
1) 675 tons/day of coal was burnt at Chinchilla.
2) 200 tons/day of coal was burnt at a Rocky Mountains Pilot test.
1 ton for CNX is the tip of the iceberg. Once we know the resource size, in million or billion tons, this should become a full-fledged project.
