I once encountered a book published in the US, on the subject of world oil reserves, geopolitics etc; for the first few chapters at least it was a serious book. But then decline set in. The author actually attempted to portray the wider Persian Gulf / Mespotamia region, from the UAE to northern Iraq, as an area the size of Kansas.
Yep: Kansas. Author must've been mighty impressed by the size of Kansas when he was a young 'un.
