Sincere thanks Jason for this succinct and comprehensive update on the current parties. It certainly has got a lot more complex since I lived in Penang in the 60's, when all you needed to know was about Tengku (Prince) Abdul Rahman and 'his' ruling UMNO, and the MCA, the Malayan Chinese Aasociation, which was a force in Penang, the heart of the Malayan Chinese community as I recall. A fascinating time during the newly independent Malaysia's formation (which briefly included Singapore by the way), promoting the national language, and signs everywhere exhorting us to 'report all suspicious movements' because there were still occasional communist terrorists and sympathisers thought to be around in the Chinese community there.
