only when you are aggregating several users. Like between exchanges
the expense of putting a fibre optic cable to each and every house and maintaining it is far too expensive and the cost cannot be justified. we are talking about over $7000 a connection
I dont know anyone who given a cheque from the government of 7k to spend with a telco on broadband would spend it on a one off connection of fibre with ongoing fees
they would use it to pay ongoing fees for ADSL - it would last a very long time
this is the true test of whether the Australian public wants an NBN or not
