"is anybody else happy that Ford is closing? not happy in the sense that people will lose there jobs even if they are fat union bludgers."

Yes I am happy,as you say "brother" ( a union colloquialism),I feel somewhat sad(though they have 3 years to get their house in order),for the workers, but in the big scheme of things, this IMHO is a plus for the country overall.
As some wag on 6pr said today ,the car workers don't have to worry, because abbott has promised two million new jobs.

Whoever forms the next federal government should also give a three year only, timeline for federal funding for the remaining players.

In conjunction with this "historic event",the federal government whoever is in power, needs to simultaneously delete the tariffs on imported cars and remove stamp duty from housing throughout the country.
This will put an end to the impediment of selling your house and having to buy a new one (two lots of stamp duty) when moving to where the work is.

With or without abbott,WA is supposed to need 180 thousand skilled jobs in the next decade, welcome one and all.

Of course the next domino to come into play will be the aluminum industry, subsidies up the wahzoo there.
Regrettably this should have happened 20 years ago, fingers in dykes springs to mind.
