The ignorance of some politicians on this whole issue is just astounding.
In a further AAP release about changing the Qantas Sale ACT just now, we read that the opposition will not allow any change to pass. I understand that.
But one of the reasons given by labor for that position is that it would lead to "closure of regional routes".
That is hysterical. For anyone who knows anything about regional aviation, one of the biggest 'problems' is what Qantas does. They are like a bull in a china shop, which leads to all kinds of distortions, and inefficient services. Later today there is supposed ot be a court decision handed down in a case prompted by Qantas action. The list is long and very devious. Their moto seems to be 'if we can't have it we will make it unviable for others'. Meanwhile the public is the loser.
Labor's thinking on this is just on another planet.
