One other issue, QAN has not employed Pilots for sometime now and no new recruits are currently in any type of training. IMO, the day will come (if QAN does ever expand again) that QAN will suddenly need large numbers of skilled pilots at short notice to cover expansion and attrition of current pilots. Problem is, most skilled pilots will be working elsewhere.
Rex ran in to that problem a few years ago, when their pilots were poached en masse by Virgin and others. Their solution was to set up their own training school, and they now have a contract with the UAE to train pilots for United Arab Emitrates carriers.
Rex has just announced a very thin half-year profit today. But it still a profit.
