This recent survey of the mining industry suggests that Indonesia was already recognised within the industry as one of the riskiest places to do business, even before this latest move. So I guess that anyone operating there would have already factored that high risk into all of their calculations and projections. Maybe the market less so (?).

It seems that Newcrest has no fear of country risk, with its ongoing focus on building projects in Indonesia, PNG and Fiji. Makes them look heroes if they get away with it, and pleading sheer bad luck if they don't.
