I was consulting to Unis well before Abbott was PM and they all had significant business plans to bring in more overseas students, and were focused on it. They all had recruited very senior staff to bring in foreign students and had agents overseas to attract them. This is not an Abbott thing, it is Unis who have become bloated and irrelevant and bring in foreign students so that they won't have to change. We need them to change, we need them to become relevant, we don't need them to have a lifeline that means they stay irrelevant. If you talk to most business people, they are frustrated by our education system and universities are the most frustrating.
