I never said coal was disappearing anytime soon. It's got a solid 20 years left at least I think. But I don't think it has a viable future in 50 years though.
So if you will be dead and buried in 20 years I'm sure an investment there will be fine. But if you're 20 and looking to invest for your retirement I'd think it would be a silly move to invest in coal. Would be like investing in new cart technology for horses in the 1920s because of the complexities of a combustion engine are too great. And who'd want to be transported in a vehicle with a combustible fuel load.
