very interesting website, oerhaps the green brigade should look at it before spewing out all the emotive rubbish on poor practice.

    few little facts

1.maximum only 20% of old growth forest available for wood production will be clear felled

    2. tasmania is covered by 3.3million hectares of native timber

1.5million hectares is managed and only half of this is available for timber production.

    3. clearfelling--is controversial and ugly ,however so are bushfires and prior to european settlement the only managers
were native australians, who regularly set selected areas on fire to ensure a cycle of regeneration took place and no doubt,it managed flora and fauna ensuring a supply of food and a margin of safety for their communities.

modern practice of clearfelling is done on the basis of 90year native regeneration before any harvesting can take place, targetted areas are generally hilly topography and aerial seeding is used extensively after burning, this would be very similar to natural processes after natural fires.

4 biomass power generation used in the most advanced green technology countries in the world, utilising waste and reducing the overall effect of pollution from fossil fuels.

there is certainly a lot of information available and it seems the greens are not very fond of promoting the positive aspects of forest management practice,i guess we will soon see what might transpire after the election,it strange that no one seems to talk about the environmental impact of hydro power stations ,warming the natural environment for aquatic life
