Sorry I missed the last sentence - I generally look for some sort of setup which generates 'momentum' and try to capture a part of.
So I like window shopping for areas which has price sort of consolidating, then setting up an entry where I think price has sufficiently moved for it to have broken out of consolidation areas. eg below
