MG, my conclusion is the same as yours - there is no simple system that consistently works - however I would say that the term "consistent" in that statement is relative.
These days my main measure for consistency is drawdown (both depth and duration) and in terms of these measures it is possible to develop systems which have drawdowns of as little as 1% (I have seen the results of EA examples that can do that).
So consistency is certainly possible. But simple - that's another matter - and also the rate of return for these highly consistent systems I believe tends to be very low (but positive), i.e. there is essentially a risk/return trade-off that is inevitably faced - i.e. do I want something more consistent and with less drawdown or am I prepared to risk a higher drawdown in order to achieve more return.
