So, for arguments sake, lets say you're unlucky enough to have a fake 50 in your wallet.
If you handed it in at a bank/reserve bank/cop shop, would you get a polite 'thank you' and be handed a genuine 50 in it's place., or would they swipe it with no compensation given?
