Why the Price of Platinum?
I wonder why platinum is only trading at roughly the same price as gold.
Reasons for wondering.
Historically it had traded at a premium to gold.
Most the world's platinum reserves are in South Africa. This country's sovereign risk has, IMO, taken a beating with Malema's (ANC Youth Leader) raving about nationalising the mining industry. We know what happened in Zimbabwe when crackpots took over.
Platinum is far rarer than gold
Does this imply that platinum is cheap or that gold is expensive. I'm inclined to want to believe the former. I guess the third option is that the price dynamics of these two precious metals has changed.
Something to ponder anyhow!
