Why not indeed ... nice extended thinking. I wouldnt be surprised to see ucg bypass the whimper and take off with a bang on the back of a "significant other" lending credibility via partnership or equity.
I came across coal reserves figures for the US a couple of weekends back and was gobsmacked ... your energy security as a driver makes perfect sense imo. But Origin Energy still have the cred and culture to snare first mover advantage here in Australia.
Have you followed my posts where I talk about the potential 16x energy density recovery with ucg over simply CBM extraction? Have you checked the logic or calcs? Its the core of the ucg advantage I feel. The relatively small footprint of ucg powered electricity generation is pretty compelling, even allowing for CO2 sequestering.
