Fair enough that you hold that view and there are legitimate policies to deal with that. However making incursions into Indonesia or trying to push boats back is a dangerous policy that puts our magnificent Navy in a terrible position and has already broken down our relations with Indonesia. What happened to Abbott's claim Indonesia is our greatest friend. Without co-operation from Indonesia boats could once again accelerate now they know the Australian Navy cant cross into Indonesian waters.
Its a high risk shamozzle that has occurred and Australia has had to eat humble pie and apologise. The impact of this shamozzle on asylum seeker boat arrivals will be found out through March as the monsoon season ends. Hopefully, the Nauru and Manus Island policy will continue to prove a disincentive and not many boats will make the trip. Our Navy really now cant force boats back into Indonesian waters so that policy may imo soon end.
