The US dollar is slowly losing it's position as the world currency & if it falls, so will the US empire. Gold been manipulated to preserve the US dollar & keep people from selling the dollar & move into gold as an hedge against inflation ( too much usless paper money)& the financial turmoil in Eurpoer, Debt burdens in US,Japan, China & Europe.
