To see how heavy diesel equipment can fairly easily transition to hydrogen fuel, Google “JCB hydrogen engine” and look at one or two of the YouTube videos. This clarified a few things that I did not understand - e.g. comparison with battery electric for heavy equipment. Weight, cost of batteries and charging cycle seem limiting for large electric. JCB has built diesel engines for many years and have working hydrogen ones they are transitioning to, mostly by changing the head design for existing diesel engines. FFI production of hydrogen looks like a smart direction to me.
