You are correct in that there will be an overlap , but the test has been found to be highly sensitive ( picks up true positives) and specific ( excludes true negatives)for a range of cancers. I had posted on the studies that have shown that. In conjunction with other known tests of breast cancer it improved the overall detection rate better than currently available tests. the next step will be to do exactly that, start validating midkine specific test for particular cancers and establish what they have found in initial trials a high detection rate and at same time ability to exclude false positives .
