Never thought about the shock from bumps , but can see that being a possible issue I spoke to a NZ electric bike builder who uses hub motors , about why they restricted the motor to 3kw on their bike , he mentioned heat build up is higher with hub motors , as they are harder to get airflow into them , and guessing the frame can not act as a heat sink (my thought ) they obviously were being conservative and did not want warranty claims .
I am guessing the bigger the motor the less surface area to kilowatts ratio
