How true just look at what the coal industry is spending.
ABBOT Point in North Queensland could become one of the biggest coal ports in the world if Queensland government plans for its expansion come to fruition.
The first terminal at Abbot Point, recently upgraded from a capacity of six million tonnes to 50 million tonnes of coal, has been sold to Indian company Adani for $1.83 billion.
Capacity for another two terminals, which could take between 30 million and 60 million tonnes each, has been allocated to BHP Billiton and Hancock Coal.
This would take the port's capacity to between 110 million and 170 million tonnes a year, but the state government yesterday called for expressions of interest in developing a further four terminals with combined capacity of 120 million tonnes.
This would make Abbot Point's capacity 230-290 million tonnes.
