We must have been watching different versions of the same program. Even at the end of the program Kerry O'Brien commented that the ALP's two biggest parliamentary players currently do not provide a clear path to the future.
The program did indeed stress that Rudd's obvious connection with mainstream Australians contrasts with reactions from within the Labor movement & that for Gillard the situation is just the reverse.
At the end of the program I thought the clear finding was that political division is death, that Gillard cannot win the next election unless she overcomes public aversion to her & that Rudd will never lead the ALP again unless he can demonstrate that he would lead in a more consultative, inclusive & less intolerant manner in future.
