it is too easy to assume what type of women are subjected to abuse. there are CEOs, competent and successful women as well as those for whom life has been one long hard struggle.

An interesting case study of coercive control is Patty Hearst, American heiress of the William Randolph Hearst media empire. Kidnapped in 1974 by leftist radicals called the Symbionese Liberation Army. Over an extended period of time of imprisonment and duress she, at casual observation, appeared to willingly perpetrate crimes with her kidnappers including robbery and extortion.
