Well actually if you think you are getting ripped off at Coles or Woolies (and I don't believe you are), there are plenty of other choices. Here are some of the other large food retailers in Australia you may be aware of: IGA, Aldi, Costco.
My opinion is that Coles and Woolies have simply become the whipping boys for the media's morbid fascination with inflation and the "cost of living crisis". Businessess should be entitled to pass on increased costs to their customers. Making private enterprise public enemy number one will only help to lessen competition in the long run as Australia will become an undesirable place to do business.
If you want the government to control everything, the average standard of living will be much lower in the long run.
