Dear chuck, your comment that these poor souls had:
'No legitimate way to get access to any sort of official channels that would provide a pathway to freedom and a productive life'
Theses so called poor souls had money to fly to indonesia, to pay people smugglers to get into Australia. These so call poor souls were not dummies, they knew and and had the money to queue jump. Thet knew that there were bleeding hearts that would support them. They proably even got advice and developed strategies to get a jump on the queue.
dont see many sudanese from dafur paying the money that these unscrupolous queue jumpers did. and I would think that a refugee in Dafur would have it worse than any of the queue jumpers had.
Just dont understand why people will stick up for a queue jumper unless they have a vested interest.
