Profits rent tax is used in Australias big shopping centres and there is much discussion about it. However I have never seen a call for a government to be thrown out for it or a government want it changed. The shop profitability tax is a tax by monopolistic shopping centres. Whether it is right or wrong is not the point, but these taxes are already with us. With minerals in short supply, Australians can take a monopolistic position as regards the rate of return to them.
