Why is humanity so fixated on the 5 day work week, and who mandated that this should be the norm? That aside, I have come to the conclusion that this paradigm (the 5 days working week) is counterproductive to the good of humanity and economics. Of humanity, it (a 4 day work week) would alleviate the stress component of having limited time to devote to family, friends and other day to day matters. Of economics, the benefits are even more pronounced. First, it has been proven that employees are more productive working a 4 day work week, such that it equals 5 days. Second, that 5th day worked is mostly taken by tax. Third, a myriad of businesses would benefit financially from the extended leisure time - think travel, tourism, home maintenance retail, cafe's; to mention but a few. Fourth, additional employment opportunities would be created to compensate for that one day lost, so no tax loss to governments, and less unemployment. There are a lot more complexities to all this of course, but even so, I contend that the benefits outweigh the negatives on numerous fronts.
And again, who the hell dictated that the 5 day working week was optimal for humans? And why should it not be questioned?
