Most of the anti-fraccing movement is based around the idea of preserving farm land (a renewable resources) rather than displacing it for a non-renewable industry (shale). There are, of course, a harder-green element of the movement, that will fight this to the bitter end.
I think most of the farmers will agree, if we are going to extract gas, its best to do it in the middle of the desert. And better to move towards gas/solar/wind and away from coal from a greenhouse perspective.
Also, I hope the anti-frack movement has the common sense to see that if they push for a Australia-wide ban that, down the track, when we are shortage of gas, that there will be a countervailing movement Australia-wide.
Also, given the location, whoever owns the land will like some income rather than none (or very little).
I think (hope) common sense will prevail and frakking will occur where the environmental and economic (long-term) costs of minimal (i.e. in the middle of the desert).
