Driving an automobile . . . flying an airplane . . . taking medication . . . all these activities are potentially dangerous if not conducted properly and safely. Yet if they are conducted, they have the potential to bring great benefit to the community.
Would zealots consider a ban on all these activities because of the potential danger that they pose?
Clearly a balance needs to be struck, and it is the government's obligation to drive a process so that "appropriate" safeguards are in place that do NOT impede the overall benefit for the community.
So far the record for governments in this regard is poor.
They/we are being intimidated by the stand-over tactics of the well intentioned zealous eco-warriors wanting to save the planet.
Everyone wants to save the planet and do good for mankind. It is the arrogance of the eco-warriors who believe that their way is the right way and the only way.
Time to retake the initiative. . . . . for the good of mankind.
